CO150 WALKWAY VISION
Architectural Concept
The design for the CO150 Walkway is inspired by the iconic landscapes of Colorado, drawing on the rich sensory language of the state’s natural features to create a dynamic and diverse pedestrian experience. The bridge is anchored at both ends—Lincoln Veterans Memorial Park and the State Capitol—with a tribute to Colorado’s spectacular geology. These landings are informed by the rocks so characteristic of Colorado—its rugged central mountain ranges and vibrant volcanic regions. These moments root the bridge into the earth with the heavy, timeless quality of Colorado’s ancient terrain.
Between these moments of geologic gravitas, the bridge flows through the park, weaving around existing trees and winding toward the Capitol, evoking the dynamism and lightness of Colorado’s rivers. This language of waterways—and their meandering, diverging paths—inspires the forms of stairs and pathways branching off the bridge, offering visitors multiple ways to engage with the CO150 Walkway, the park, and the city beyond.
